Test Preparation
Simple steps to get ready for your scan or test.
CT Scan
- Upper/whole abdomen scans need overnight fasting; takes 2–3 hrs or more
- KUB & lower abdomen scans need full bladder; no fasting required
- Inform us of any drug or contrast allergy beforehand
Ultrasound (Abdomen)
- Upper/whole abdomen scans need empty stomach for better visibility
- Lower abdomen, KUB & early pregnancy scans need full bladder
- Children usually don't need to be kept empty stomach
X-Ray
- Routine X-rays need no special preparation
- Abdomen/KUB/LS Spine X-rays need prior night prep with charcoal & laxatives
- Special X-ray tests need extra prep, given at time of appointment
Fetal Wellbeing Ultrasound
- Have a good meal 30–60 minutes before the appointment
- Drink 1–2 glasses of fruit juice 20–30 minutes prior, unless advised otherwise
- Some fluid in bladder helps bring baby's head out of pelvis
TMT & Stress Echo
- Do not come immediately after a meal
- Wear comfortable shoes and clothing
- Book an appointment in advance for this test
BMD & PFT
- No special preparation required
- You may come in your normal routine
- Inform staff of any relevant medical history
If you are pregnant or suspect pregnancy, please inform us before X-ray, CT scan or Mammography, as these are generally not advised during pregnancy.
